Urban studies1/31/2024 FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE FUTURE CAREERS OF URBAN STUDIES MAJORS. Our students land competitive, meaningful jobs upon graduation in non-profit, government, and private sectors. Urban studies gives us the understanding and tools to responsibly navigate our built environment one that pivots on history, economics, sociology. Our graduates go on to graduate schools in urban planning, architecture, law, business, education, and public policy others go into careers in the non-profit sector, consulting, government, and real estate development. These programs combine interdisciplinary coursework, strong research skills, and technical training to prepare our students to address pressing issues in globalization, sustainability, and social justice. ![]() We offer a BA, MA, and PhD in Geography and Urban Studies. The urban studies program is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program offering BS, BA, and minor degrees to students who are inquisitive about cities. How do different processes, from poverty to environmental quality, vary across urban spaces? How is place important to communities and the people that live in them? How do global processes impact cities, neighborhoods and residents? Our programs focus on teaching and research for social change using a range of geographic methods. Youll gain a multifaceted understanding of urban life from various. A minimum of 120 credits of coursework is required for the baccalaureate degree. Urban Studies is the examination of metropolitan life, processes and problems. BA in Geography with concentration in Urban Studies. The bachelor of science in urban studies and planning is a 120-credit-hour program, including 39 general education credits, 45 other required credits, and 36 credits specific to urban studies and planning. Geography is the study of the interaction of people, places and the environment. Students learn where cities come from, how they grow, thrive, and decline, how they are organized, and how to construct meaningful, inclusive, secure, and sustainable places. Urban Studies explores the social, economic, political, and spatial structures of cities through multiple disciplinary lenses, focusing on issues, problems. Every student who decides to major or minor in Urban Studies is required to take complete an unpaid internship, for which they receive 2 cu’s, through a course entitled Fieldwork (URBS300). Geography and Urban Studies students are equipped with the intellectual and methodological tools necessary to understand and address a wide range of environmental, economic, social and political challenges that are central to the well-being of billions of people in an urbanizing world. The Urban Studies program teaches students to analyze the city, urban life, and urbanization through a variety of disciplinary lenses.
